Verizon's Stop Motion Studio

Ordinary people to create extraordinary animations using their cell phone, the Vine app, and a little help from Verizon Wireless and its products. In conjunction with the opening of its flagship store at Minneapolis’s Mall of America, Verizon Wireless launched the Stop-Motion Studio, the pilot workshop of its new interactive education platform. The experience combined devices, apps, and accessories into hands-on activities that delighted as they educated, allowing Verizon customers, both current and prospective, the opportunity to learn by doing. A movie-making workshop for the masses, the Stop-Motion Studio gave people everything they needed to direct their own (very) short film. Guests chose from among three different scenes, selected their cast, and developed their storyline, aided by a set of specially designed props with animation tricks built in. They then mounted their smartphone on the custom fixture and used the free Vine app to shoot their final creation. As they worked, they applied supplemental content offering narrative advice and tips on techniques. The workshop was a huge success: of the participants surveyed, 100% said they had fun, and 95% learned something new. The store became a true destination, a place for guests to create something unexpected and sharable and get to know Verizon and its products along the way.
