Renewing the home of screen culture.

    A landmark transformation.
The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) is the world’s most visited museum dedicated to the moving image. Since 2002, it has welcomed more than 14.7 million visitors, showcasing the worlds of film, television, video games, digital culture, and art.
As Exhibit and Experience Design partner, Second Story led a comprehensive transformation of ACMI’s visitor experience. The 25,000-square-foot museum became our canvas for reimagining what a world-class cultural institution could be. At its heart, a new signature exhibition invites audiences on an immersive journey through the past, present, and future of the moving image. Two new education spaces further expand ACMI’s impact—empowering students and teachers to become makers themselves.
This ambitious renewal elevates ACMI as a must-visit destination for international audiences, while deepening its role as a hub for Australian creators and story-making communities.

“A quantum leap forward for this museum typology, but also for all types of experience design and digital culture; it questions the confines of the physical museum itself.”
